Weirdnesses:
There are a few "weirdnesses" in the Database Online.
There are still some stations above channel 69! Channels 70-83 were theoretically phased out, beginning in the early 1970s. However, some translators are still licensed for these channels. A station on channel 70 in Kansas was seen as recently as early 1997, as was another on channel 75 in New Mexico. K79BK in Minnesota is still on the KTTC-TV signoff slide, and KTTC's engineers say it's still operating, though I didn't see it on a visit to Fairmont in the winter of 1997. Several stations in Virginia are not believed to still be operating.
FCC regulations do not permit assignment of channel 37 to TV stations. It's reserved for radio astronomy. (my understanding is that the resonant frequency of the hydrogen atom is in channel 37) I have no idea why there's an application on file to allocate channel 37 to Meridian, Idaho.
In some cases, you may find a full power and a low-power station assigned to the same channel in the same or nearby cities. Usually, the full-power station is not yet on the air, and the low-power station will be permitted to continue to operate until the full-power operation is ready. In some cases (notably WXTV-LP Philadelphia, listed on channel 35 but actually on 42) the low-power station is operating on some other channel under temporary authorization.
